ALLEGED Sequel To Discovery Of Canton Cargo

A SEQUEL to the discovery of a large quantity of un- manifested cargo on the steamer, Fatshan on October 13 occurred at the Central Magistracy, this morning when Mesers. J. P. Vastinia and Company, were summoned for unlawfully im- porting 85 bales of silk and cotton plece goods into the Colony.

Mr. F. G. Nigel, for the defence, said the Company only claimed 50 bales of silk and two tales of paper. He then dealt with the question of mens rea, and said that the carriers had been told to take the goods to Hongkong,
