PORTSMOUTH, May 24.
A REPORT received at 6.35 p.m. states that 24 of the crew of the lost U.S. submarine Squalus have been brought to the surface in the diving bell.
The Navy Department reports four feet of the deck of the Falcon, that 26 members of the sunken leaving three quarters submerged. submarine Squalus are dead while 32 are known to be safe. Eight persons; still alive, re- main in the submarine.
The Falcon's rescue chamber brought the first seven of the Squalus crew to the surface at 1.25 pan. thus achieving the Arst diving bell rescue in the history of the Navy.
The rescued men were placed in a decompression chamber, olier which they will be transferred to the U.S.S. Brooklyn's emergency hospital If they are in good condition.
