Several matches in the European Zones of the 1939 Davis Cup competition commenced over the week-end. Leading by two matches to one at the end of Saturday's play, Hungary eliminated Rumania by three matches to two at Bucharest; Germany is now leading Switzerland by two matches to nil at Vienna; Poland and Yugo-Slavia are leading Holland and Ireland respectively by the same margin.

It is fit that we pause for a moment and reflect on the progress the Club hus made since it was founded in 1900, 1 am glad to say we have amongst us still a sturdy band of members who remember this Club-house in its mat- shed state. It speaks well for the traditions and progressive spirit of the Club when I say these pioneers are Just as enthusiastic about the new Club as the younger members, who have carried on the new work.
