Totalitarians To Form Military Alliance ITALY & GERMANY REACH AGREEMENT FOR MUTUAL AID
ROME, May 7
A political and military alliance was FIXED A PACT agreed upon to-day between Count Ciano, the Italian Foreign Minister, and Herr Joachim von Ribbentrop, the German Foreign Minister, in the course of their conversations in Milan.
An official communique issued after the meeting between the two statesmen says:
"In the conversations between Count Ciano and Herr von Ribbentrop on May 6 and 7, the present general situation in the international situation was taken into consideration.
"Once again note was taken of the perfect identity of
views between the two governments.
"It was decided to fix in final form in a political and military pact, the relations between the two. States of the Axis.
"In
such a way, Italy and Germany intend to con tribute in an efficacious manner to assuring peace in Europe,”—Reuter.
NO SURPRISE
LONDON, May 7. The Italo-German decision to define the Axis relations in a political and military pact does not altogether come as a surprise to London, writes "Reuter's" diplomatic correspondent.
Official circles, however, are reserving comment in
the absence of details about the scope of the pact.
