The Albanian Prime Minister to-day broadcast message as an "open message to Mussolini" demanding the cessation of hostilities. He described the invasion as "barbaric." King Zog has appealed to Belgrade and other capitals for support.-United Press.

LONDON, Apr. 7. THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND Italian troops landed on the Albanian coast this morning, and encountered strong resistance at Durazzo and Sangiovanni di Medua.

Meanwhile the Tirana short-wave station, con- tinually broadcasting in five languages, appeals to the Albanians to unite and to fight to the last drop of blood.

A communique issued at the Italian Embassy in London late this afternoon stated that Italian troops were now proceeding into the interior, and were meeting slight resistance from irregular bands, but that the Albanian army were offering no resistance in any sector.

Italian planes were dropping hundreds of thousands of leaf- lets stating that Italian troops would be withdrawn as soon as

the disturbances which had occurred during the past few days have disappeared.

The communique adds: “No bombs have been dropped on the civil population.”

ALBANIAN RESISTANCE

The statement regarding the Albanian army is not borne out in a semi-official statement issued earlier by the Albanian press bureau in Tirana, which declared that "no Italian soldiers had been able to remain on our territory owing to the ferocious resistance of the troops and Albanian people, whose morale remains excellent in spite of the inequality of the opposing

CROSSED ADRIATIC

ROME, Apr. 7.

Italian military and naval action against Albania started this morning.

A statement issued by the official agency reveals that Italian troops left Brindisi and Barí direct for Albania yesterday evening.

The first naval squadron, which from dawn yesterday had been cruising along the Albanian coast from Santi Quaranta to Sangiovanni di Medun, also participated, while an aerial squadron was also mobilised.

Italian warships evacuated from Durazzo and Valona to Italy "several hundreds of our co-nationals, among whom were women and children," adds the communication, which, dealing with the events leading up to these developments says: THREE DIVISIONS USED
