Changes
LONDON, Dec. 29.
IN a report of an inquiry which has been proceeding for five years the Consultative Com- mittee expresses the view that secondary education in the past has been too exclusively academic. They recommend a new type of school to be called "technical high school" to take selected boys at 11, and to pro- vide a 6-years' course.
In the first two years the curricu- lum will be similar to other second- ary schools and the later course will: follow on more modern lines, with scienco as its central feature.
A new type of internal examina- tion, with a leaving certificate to be taken at 16, is suggested.
Technical
ore to be high schools developed out of the present junior technical schools in building and en- gineering, and they will be equiva- lent in status to grammer schools.
The committee consider grammar school should continue as hitherto, to provide education mainly for boys. and girls likely to go to the univer- sity, and they urge greater freedom be allowed schools in shaping their 'curriculum.
that
Suggestions for ensuring pupils shall be allowed their indivi- dunt tastes and capacities are made, and
the committee stress the im- portance of good teaching of spoken central and written English as
feature of the curriculum in these schools.
Looking beyond these immediate proposals, the committee favour a single national system of schools for In this pupils between 1 and 16. system there would be grammar schools, technical high schools, mo- and senior dern selective schools, schools. They think that ultimately all these types should be under one' secondary code-British Wireless.

Doctors and nurses know that Horlicke is an ideal food for both expeelani and nursing mothers, Not only is extremely palatable ond easy to take, but it promotes sound sleep and prevents morning sickness. Horlicks, moreover, provides the extra nourishment nursing mothers need. It is invaluable where the digestive powers are weak, and tends te prevent constipation.
In these difeuli tines of anxiety and worry, the task of carrying on and doing work which must be done is a doubly dificult one which gust tend to exhaust one's nervous energy.
