Stan Laurel "Got Mad" Cooking Dinner
AND WIFE

IT HOT FOR HIM
HOLLYWOOD.
Stan Laurel, one-time partner of Oliver Hardy, has drawn up a five-points defence in answer to the charge, on which he was arrested recently, of driving a car while drunk.
The much-married, mournful English' film comedian was de- tained by a policeman, who said he found him nude to the waist! and bleeding badly.
Stan told the policeman that he had just had a "terrible! battle" with his wife. Now he has prepared the following de-j fence:
1. I slaved over a hot stove all day preparing a dinner for
my wife.
2. I got madder and madder when she did not arrive and the steaks got burned.
3. When she did arrive and I berated her she went for me with the frying-pan.
4. I tried to take the telephone from her and cut my arm on.

6. She called me out of the house and threw sand in my face. Stan then relates how hia wifc

£5,000 PEARLS HUNT
Mrs. A. de Marigny's £5,000 pearl necklace, lost either in n cinema or in one of two laxients, was being searched for all over London recently by the private inquiry agents of in- surance Arms and assessora.
Scotland Yard detectives were also engaged.
Nearly all the agents are ex-Scot- land Yard men skilled in detective work. They have more freedom in making their inquiries than the police, who must work according to [regulations.
HUNT FOR A TAXI
Every attendant and member of the staff of the cinema visited by Mrs. Marigny is to be questioned in the hope that some clue may be obtained.
At the same time the two ranks where Mra, de Marigny talled a taxi are to be visted to discover. If possible, the cab which Mrs. Marigny engaged.
