The victim of the Stamford crash was Miss Mary Russell, whose charred body was found after the fire at her home had been extinguished.

She was about to take a bath when the crash occurred and, running outside, she was buried under the debris. A metal spar from the plane was driven into her back and she was killed instan- taneously.

Hundreds of people saw the crash and a pilot fighting for his life os he fried to release his parachute while his body fell, twisting and turning, to the ground. He got the landed in a tree, from which ho scrambled to safety.
