RUSSIAN AID TO CHINA CAUSES STRONG PROTEST

Tokyo, May 4.

Russia's alleged disregard for Japanese interests and the military assistance that she is said to be giving to China was dealt with in two statements by the Foreign Office, issued within 24 hours of each other.

In a statement yesterday the Foreign Office spokes- man made a vigorous protest against the military assistance that Russia is alleged to be giving China.

This afternoon he made another statement, declaring that the Soviet Government "fails to reciprocate the goodwill manifested by the Japanese Government in its efforts to settle all impending problems between the two countries, despite the Soviet's professed readiness to settle all pending issues in a spirit of conciliation and concession."

The Soviet Government, Ne statement declarra, has unilaterally demanded closure of the Japanese consulates at Habarovsk and Blago- vorchensk, while negotiations on the question are still going on.
