An appeal to local Portuguese doc- tors to carry on their work unsel- Ashly for the sake of humanity was given by Dr. Soares to a representa- tive of the S. C. M. Post after the function.

He said a doctor's life was arduous and seldom appreciated or under- stood, but he advised young followers expect of his profession not to material reward for their labours, but to go on, even with self-sacrifice, to alleviate the sufferings of their fellow men.

that it was often due to their care that the happiness of a patient or a family depended, and the self-satis faction to be derived from this would amply pay any wordly reward.

In 1915 he was transferred to Timor, and resigning his commission in the Army, returned to Macan in 1916 as a civilian physician. But for a short leave in 1027 he has since been in practice.
