Resolutely, Jonathan remains away from places where he might neet Lady Elizabeth, but finally meets her and hor husband at a London gambling resort. Riacy, still intent on fore- Ing Jonathan to admit him ta the syndicate, invites him to dino nt the Blacy home. After un emus tional scene, they agree not to seo rach other at the Stacy home, Int to meet at the studio of Bie Thomas Lawrence, where a por- trait of Lady Biacy la bôing painted.
