Mr. Chiu, "He has to eat like two catties of rice daily and on the basis of the present higher prices he has to pay at least ten cents more a day for his two square meals, And ten cents is a considerable sum to the rickshaw coolie with a meagre and uncertain daily income,"

The members subsequently decided to write to the Canton charitable organisations supporting their plan to send a petition to Nanking.

It

has been decided to form a local banking consortium, which will take full responsibility for raising a loan of $1,000,000 for purchasing rice from

ee producing provinces.

the beginning it was suggested that the loan should be advanced to the Food Distribution Commitee, but thie arrangement was opposed by local bankers, who prefer to advance the loan through a consortium. When the Food Distribution Committee in- tends to purchase rice from other provinces the banking consortium will advance 80 per cent of the cost of every shipment to the buyer, through their bankers on hypothecation sys- torr instead of simply giving credits to the Food Distribution Commitee as formerly arranged.

The Food Distribution Committee must sell the shipments of rice at 24 per cent. under the full cost in order to give beneft to all poor

cple here. All expenses and de- felt will be paid by the Provincfol Government as long as the Committee cxifts.

The present food crisis is expected to be relieved as soon as shipments ordered by the Food Distribution Committee arrive here.

Meanwhile it is also understood that Mr. T. L Soong, Financial Com- mission

has informed General Yu Han-mow, Commander-in-Chief of the cui. Route Army Forces that is telegram appealing for temporary suspension of the duty on Imported rice has been forwarded to the Cen- tral Government.-Wah Kiu Yat Po.

of the Dermolino skin lotion. On December 20 he sent one of his clerks to defendants' pinge to buy `n holtle of Dermoline, and when it was Inter handed to him he found the label was different from that of bls Company.

The chief difference was the num-i

genuine bottlo bore the Agure. 341 while the non-genuine one had the figure 20. His company never used the latter figure. The ene-ounce bollies manufactured by his firm also bore the plain chozac- ter "Chung", surrounded by a shield, and never had the additional charac- ter "Wah" as on the non-genuine bottle, though the two-ounces and four-ounces bottles had that word. Substances Absent

He tested the contents of the bottle bought from defendants and found that three substances in the genuine article were absent-menthol, cam- phor and salicylle, acid. The retall price for onc-ounce bottle was 20 cents Hongkong currency and 30 cents Canton money.

Cross-examined by Br. Loscby, witness sald hia company had manufactured Dermaline for i num- ber of years. Only two Inbels had ever been used, one bearing the figure 341 and the other 340.

Witness was shown a number of battles but sold he could not tell whether they were genuine or not, without the labels. He suspected forgeries about six months ago but had never sent one of his men lo defendant company to check up the bottles. The character dung” surrounded by a shield was the registered trade-mark of his Com- pany.

Mr. Loscby: I say the character "Wah" is part of your registered trade-mark, although you have no such word on your label. I have| searched the Trade Mark Register and found that out. What do you sny to that?

Witness: We rely more on the word Dermoline than that mark. To my knowledge the word "Chung") is our trade mark.

Ng Palt-yim, a clerk employed by the China Dispensary, testified to having purchased a bottle of Dermo- line from defendants.
