RACE of pale-faced pygmies, hitherto unknown, was discovered in the New Guinea hinterland by an expedition under Lord! Moyne, who recently returned to England from a cruise through the Malay Archipelago in his yacht Rasaura.

"We penetrated 180 miles up the Ramu River, in Australian mandated territory, to find the pygmies," Lord Moyne said. "At ferocious, first they were very though, unlike the black tribes which inhabit the country around them, they are cannibals. The country is very wild-dense jungle surmounted by. snow-capped mountains 12.- 000 feet high."

Calcutta, June 12.

FOR six months the devoted sons and daughters of fifty- year-old Dr. S. Sen have been keeping him alive by making blood transfusions every day--and even the nearest friends of the family have been unaware of their sacrifice.

RING OF "LIDOS" PROPOSED FOR LONDON

London, May 25. London may soon have a ring of open-air bathing pools like the East End Lido which was opened this month.

Dr. Sen is suffering from the rare disease, leukaemia (which causes an increase in the white

corpuscles of the blood):

Local doctors were baffled, sa specialists in England and Ger- many have been consulted daily by telegram,

The family's sacrifice was reveal- ed as a result of a public appeal for volunteers for blood transfusion. Already consideration has Dr. Sen's family have been ordered been given to proposals for a long rest owing to their three other pools, perhaps, quite condition.

MORE AIRCRAFT

Better provision has also been made for offensive action against aircraft. Her anti-aircraft deck has been ex- tended

and more anti-aircraft weapons of the newest pattern have been mounted.

All, these additions would have brought the tonnage of the chip above the 10,000-ton limit laid down in the Lendon Naval Treaty of 1930-the provisions of which remain in force until December 31 next. In order to compensate for the extra weight add- ed and to avoid exceeding the Treaty mits, the after-part of the, ship has hen cut away.

Originally, the Cumberland was a Bush decked ship, the forecastle deck being carried right aft to the stern. Now this deck has been cut away from Just abalt the after 8-inch barbette to the stern, so that the ship; has a quarterdeck on a level about 8 feet below the forecastle deek.

LESS ACCOMMODATION

This alteration has, of course, re- duced the accommodation, particular- ly, in the case of a ship fitted as a dagship, os is the Cumberland.
