OF THE B.A.T.

The death of Mr. Edward 0. Drake, Departmental Manager of the 1longkong and district branch of the British-American Tobacco Company, occurred at 7.30 yesterday evening, at the War Memorial Hospital, from severe influenza and heart failure.

The news will come as great shock to the wide circle of Mr. Drake's friends all over China, and a particularly and circumstance la that Mrs. Drake, accompanied by their son and daughter, left only inst Friday, when Mr. Drake was in good health by the General Pershing for the United States.

Mr. Drake had a serious relapse yesterday and a message was at once sent to the General Pershing, the first intimation to his family of Mr. Drake's Hiness.

By a coincidence, Mr. Robert Bailey, former Head of the British-American Tobacco Company in Chainn, who went to take up an important pont in the London Office a year ago, arrived in the Colony yesterday, and was in time to see his old friend.

In his early years Mr. Drake was an exceptionally fine baseball player, and to the last he maintained a keen interest in sport. He was known member of the Hongkong Club, and, as a friend put it: "He was member of most of the Foreign Clubs in China. He was one of the real friend most kindly of men, and to many who had need of friendship. His lass will be felt in places all over China, and among many who have retired and are living in England and America.

The funeral takes place at 4 p.m. today at the Chupel in the Colonial Cemetery, and after the service the body will be cremated.
