Mr. Whitelaw's main interest, how- ever, is not in play, but in analysis. He must have analysed- some thousands of hands during the past few years.
The result of his efforts was the. production last year of his Pachabo aystem of bidding-which is in my opinion about the best of the One Chub systems.
This was tried out in a "bidding match" against the Americans, Gott- Heb and Shenken, and Whitelaw and his partners acquitted themselves. very creditably. I imagine the team which Mr. Whitelaw is proposing to bring to England will be coached in his principles of bidding,
BOND OF UNION
If the Australian visit materialises this will doubtless be the beginning of an Empire-wide organisation of contract bridge activitles.
There is no more effective bond of union between English-speaking peoples. The National Bridge Asso- cintion has long bad. some such [objective in view and 1 do not doubt

Championships Next Year
(By "Veritas")
The Hongkong Badminton Association acquiring its own courts, or alternatively sharing a special erection with a local sports club was envisaged last evening at a meeting of the Association's Council held in the Morning Post Board Room.
Several ideas were thrown out for consideration by members during the close season, and if sufficient Mit- thusiasm is shown, there is no ren- son why something definite should not be done either before or during next
season.
The President (Rev. J. R. Higgs) made further reference to the possi- bility of an Interport with Shanghai, but it in yet too early to opine whe ther it will be pinetien for other a Hongkong team to visit Shanghai or vice versa next season,
CHAMPIONSHIPS NEXT YEAR
General opinion, however, was ex- pressed that next year must see the re-introduction of two men's doubles divisions, tu cut down the league season and to permit of other events, such as Colony championships.
The primary object of fast even- ing's meeting was to receive a report sub-com. of the Presentation Night mittee and a financial statement con- cerning chat function.
Rev. J. R. Higgs was in the chair, supported by Mr. Eza Abraham and Ar. E. M. Raymond (vice-Presidents), Mr. F. 1. Kwok (hon, treasurer) and club representatives,"
Mr. S. A. Gray (convener) pre- sented the sub-committee's report in- dicating how the Presentation Night was arranged, and Mr. Kwok, in his Anancial statement, revealed that after deducting all
expenses, The evening resulted in net profil of $20. So far 15 the whole season was concerned there was д a credit balance to the Association of over $180, which included last year's balance of thirty odd dollara. Both reports and accounts were adopted.

It was brought to the notice of the meeting that an impression' had been gained by the Shanghai Press that Eliot Hall's visit there at Easter was on ofcial Interpart. The chairman emphasised that this was incorrect. Eliot Hall merely accepted an invita tion to play in Shanghai while present on an educational visit, the matches in no way being sponsored by the Hongkong Battminton Association.
The only other formal-business-of- the meeting was to appoint Mr. S. A. Gray as acting hon. secretary in suc cession to Mr. L. D. Skinner, who is shortly leaving the Colony furlough.
