THE DRIVE AND DROP SHOT
No. 4
Your aim when playing the drive is to make the shuttle fly low ever the net and to put a good pace on it.
If it is kept really low and you are playing from the back of the court you can hit as hard as you like with out risk of sending it out.
The movements fallow the rules already discussed, but the arm does nore work than the wrist. Remam- ber to hit with a straight elbow and: to strike the shuttle while it is nearer the net than you are
In the drop shot the shuttle should fall fust over the net. You should be able to play a drop shot from any position on the court and at any height, so ask a friend to throw the shuttle to you in different directions to give you the necessary practice."
Contrary to what one would imn- 21-15;gins with this delicate shot, a firm grasp the racket and a frin stroke are required, to matter how short a distance the shuttle has to travel.

Use your wrist every time, even when it seems only necessary to put the racket in the way of the shuttle and allow it to rebound off it.
Dil it, ax,
for example, when you are up at the net and intercept a smash or a fast drive. From this position the shuttle should be hit nt the top of its flight.
The ability to send a drop shot in reply to a mash is a very useful accomplishment and worth practising
on its own account.
During play generally get back to the centre of the court immediately.

By a curious coincidence, it will be exactly two years to-morrow since a team from the Australian Universi- ties arrived in Hongkong on a simi- In tour. Ilongkong on that neen- sion was victorious by 11 points to 5. The New Zealand team arriving is vastly superior to the to-morrow. Australians however, and real ding-dong battle is expected at the Club grounds. The students from the islands across the Tasman Sea are of heftier build thar their Australian contemporaries, and New Zealanders are proverbial for the seriousness with which they take Rugby.

"VERTICAL CHAMPION" WINS AMERICAN ADMIRATION
FIGHT OFFERS NOW POURING IN-
Jock McAvoy's "slaughter" of Babe Risko has set Britain's boxing banner floating proudly in America. Madison-square Garden promoter Jimmy Johnston said to-day: "Jock is tho greatest fighter ever to come out of your country. We don't know what he may not do. He should beat John Henry Lewis, and so win the light heavy-weight championship of the world. "Maybe he will fight Risko again for his title of middle-weight chani pian, and later become the contender for the world's heavy-weight title." Johnston and McAvoy's manager. Dave Lumianski, are now discussing plans for a return match against Risko, who, speaking of last night's dufent, said: "I was ice-cold when ho aught me, and didn't have enough to get by that one. It was a tough blow.'
Lumianat will not allow McAvoy to fight Itisko again at weight ever the int, Olb, required for the middle-! weight championship.
