EMBARGO ON EXPORTS MAY BE ENFORCED
· Shanghai, Nov. 3.
While some foreign banks are prepared to turn over their silver resources to the Chinese Government, following the nationalisation of the metal, this de- cision is by no means unanimous. Many banks feel they are entitled to, secure London silver prices for their holdings.
The opinion prevails that outstanding contracts in exchange can be taken at the rates previously arranged, but the bank depositors have to accept notes in future instead of silver dollars.
An interesting point is what will happen to the note issues of the foreign banks, for which full silver re- serves are held locally.
