The failure of the efforts of the Committee of Five now lead to the most delicate and difficult situation
for the League of Nations' peacemakers, who, in effect, will have only two alternatives-to sink their principles and allow Italy to have her way, or to uphold the Covenant and let Italy walk out of the League.
The choice is not easy; but there is no doubt which way the consensus of opinion is inclined.

It was expected that the Secretariat of the League COMPANY REMAINS would publish the text of Baron Aloisi's remarks to Senor de Madariaga, the chairman of the Committee of Five, to-night. FRUITLESS TALKS

The Secretariat of the League will publish shortly the text of the proposal of the Committee of Five. They will follow the lines already forecast and published in the press, and will show that in the Committee's opinion provision might be made for the League Council to review any compromise plan at the end of five years.
It is understood that Senor de Madariaga, the chairman of the interviewed Committee of Five, Baron Alolai, the Italian spokes- man, after the morning meeting of the Committee, But their con- versations bore no fruits.
