The Somali troops, who are very well trained, and more valuable still, particularly well equipped, are strong fighters. Their desertion will handicap the Italian advance. Moreover, they are carrying Italian] machine-guns, and the attacking legions may have to face these weapons in the hands of Italian trained gun

SOCIAL CREDIT IN POLITICS
OLD PARTIES SHAKEN FROM EMINENCE
Calgary, Aug. 27.
For the first time in Canada's history, a party other than one of the old political forces, Liberal or Conserva- tive or Farmer Party, has won the provincial election in Alberta. The Social Credit Party has a sweeping majority.
Mr. William Aberhardt, the leader of the new party, has cabled to Major Douglas, the British economist and originator of the scheme which the party has made its platform, asking him to come to Alberta and help the new Government.
Details regarding the working of the scheme show that every adult person in Alberta will take a pass book every month to the Government clearing house where he or she will be credited with $25 with which to pay the grocer, butcher, landlord, and so on.
The credit will not be negoli- able.

Mr. Aberhardt hopes to persuade at least опе bank to lend branch as a clearing house.
LAND-SLIDE-
As the returns from the various constituencies come in, it is up- parent that the Social Credit Party hus won 47 seats, the Liberais four and Conservatives twa. The Social Credit Party is leading in nine of the remaining ten constituencies.
