Samuel Cohen, an official of United Artists, who recently ar- rived in Britain from New York, has some interesting things to say about British pictures In America.

"Eighteen months ago," he said in an interview, "you could empty cinema a roomful of American proprietors quicker by shouting British pictures' than by hollering "Fire"

"In less than two years, however, the status of the British produc- tion has changed from that of a poor desplaed relation to that of an honoured guest. But when I say that, I am thinking of such pictures as 'Henry VIII.' and four or five others of the same calibre. "Unfortunately, many so-called outstanding British pictures aro like a million-dollar cheque on a ruined bank-they look Impressive, they promise great things, but you can't
