Mr. F. G. Nigel, of Messrs. Johnson, Stokes and Master, ap peared on behalf of the defendant, while Detective Sergeant Franklin appeared as complainant.

Detective Sergeant Franklin' stated that on May 18 he visited the Yaumati Theatre and found that a stage performance was in progress. He asked whether a permit had been obtained from the Secretariat for Chinesc Affairs, and a poster was produced and shown to him. He was told that this was the permit.

Mr. Nigel stated that his in structions were to plead guilty. He further stated that the theatre had a licence from the Inspector General of Police for stage per- formances, and his client thought that this covered everything.

Major Featherstone Godley, Chairman of the Legion, and Colonel Crosfleld, former Chair man, are paying an informal visit to Berlin shortly to investigate of establishing the possibilities friendly contact.
