THE REAR AXLE
There are so many duties to per- form when the car is new that it is not altogether surprising that some are forgotten.
The owner of a new car, för instance, is generally very particu- lar in going over the hundred and one nuts after the first few miles have been covered. It ía, nearly always found that a few of them stand in need of lightening. There is, however, one part of the car which is as often as not for- gotten. This is the rear axle,
The tightness of the bolts ugod round the axle housing should be tested. These often become half-tura loose during the [ning-in period. If this happens the two halves of the casing may move a little. Oil is lost through leaking, while a more serious effect is that the alignment of the gears may be disturbed.
