NOTES FROM THE THEATRES
Amid a stency output of high-grade British pictures, "Jow Suss," now playing at the Central Theatre, is an outstanding example of the unmis takable advance being made by the Gaumont-British studios. This m sive production, upon which £126,000 wax spent, roaches standard that has touched the peak of picture-making ut Home, and aroused considerable in terest, and it may be heart-burning, in the United States. The picture. hased upon Lion Fouchtwanger's great historical novel, was directed by Lothar Menden who was fortunate in being supported by a cast significantly strong. Conrad Voldt is "Jew Suss," and among the other players are Frank Vosper, Benita lume, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, the lalo Bir Gerald du Maurier, Pamela Ostror, Paul Graetz, Joan Maude, and a host of others there are forty speaking parts For sheer magnificence, strength of acting and dramatle Intensity nothing approaching the quality of "Jew Susa" han ever been anon upon the screen. It is a superably acted, gripping and humatic spetacio.
