MIDLAND GRAND HOTEL'S FATE
HATRY'S PALACE A BRIDGE CLUB
London..
The Midland Grand Hotel at St. Pancras may be closed. Its fate will be decided by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway authorities in the next few days. A landmark in London for nearly 70 years; the Midland Grand has been the temporary "home" for many work known figures. It has been the rendezvous for tourists from all over the world.
Composed of 135 bedrooms and having three banqueting halls, six conference rooms and a hairdress- ing salon, the hotel was part of the general design for St. Paneras created by Sir Gilbert Scott, grand- father of Sir Giles Scott, It was opened in 1808. At the time its cathedral appearance gave rise to much comment. It was one of the first hotels in Londen to possess an American bar.
The Midland Grand has a vast wine cellar at which almost any brand of known wine could be obtained. There is also a Georgiun restaurant.

"I often wonder whether it is Britain's detrdination to own up that she has made a mistake that keops her to this Summer Time," said Mr. Henry Gornall, B.A. (London), when ho presided at a pubile meeting held under the auspices of the Anti-Summer Time League, in the Goold Hall, Edin- burgu, recently.
The League was started in Edin- burgh five weeks ago, and this meeting was called to report the progress that had been made. There were present altogether 12 persona, mainly women. One of the men, in the course of the meet- Ing, voiced disapproval of the aims of the League.
Mr. Gornal said that the Duke of Buccleuch had written stating that he opposed the Daylight. Sav- ing. Bill in the House of Lords, and still thought it was a mistake. Mr. Gornali stated that he had written asking. His Grace to be- come patron of the Lengue,

Before the hotel was erected the site was occupied by some of the worst slums in London. Its eree- tion involved the destruction of about 3,000 houses.
