Having stolen pletures from prac- tically every star in Hollywood, W. C. Field and Alison Skipworth are now trying to steal a picture from each other. These two lovable rascals are together at last, in a picture called "Tille and Gus". It will be shown on Sunday at the King's Theatre.. Fiolds and Skipworth play the roles of card sharks who, after emptying wallets and dodging sheriffs all the way from Shanghal to, Nome, arriva back home to find their niece and her husband practically penniless due to the skinfint methods of a hyster lawyer. They decide to give the old crook a blt his own medicine, help themselves to, a fortune and bring happiness to the young couple. How they do it by means of a diving sult and an old ferry-boat furnished the film with acore of hilarious, mo ments. Featured with the comedy team are Baby LeRoy, Jackquelino Wells, and Clifford Jones. The ple- ture was adapted from an original atory written by Rupert Hughes.
"Treasure Island"
Two hundred million boys in all parts of the world, many of them now grown men, have read "Treasure Island". Now this greatest adventure story of literature has found its way into a picture that is having 10s galn performance to-day at the Queen's Theatre. Certain it is that there has never been a film towards which more eyes have been cast in an intense concentration of interest, Characters whose names are as well known to millions upon millions of 'rraders, boys of eight and eighteen, stern, boarded railroad presidents of sixty -are about to step in full fesh and blood from the pages of Stevenson's much-loved book. In Casting "Tren. sure Islami" two problems had to be denit with. In the first place charac ters had to be chosen who looked Uke the traditional Illustrations of the book, and secondly as well as primari- ly, such players as had the required talent to play the parts, to make you belleve them. Vietor Fleming stated that for every ordinary motion picture! that be made, he picked his enat nằ he saw best but for "Trensure Island" he had to pick the players as if every one of the millins of render uf the book were looking over bin shoulder and it would have been un- fair to have done otherwise.
“Viva Villa"
Walines Beory and his supporting east of screen favourites were lost to the world for months in the in- Lerior of Mexico during the ing of "Vira Villa" Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer's spectacular epic which opens at the Oriental Theatre on Sunday morning at 12 o'clock. The picturé. one of the most sensational In screen history, was more than a year in the making and more than 100,000 natives were employed during its Contrac. Beary appears as Pancho Villa, around whose tempestuous life and loves the notional drama is built. With Berry appears such favourites as Leo Carrill, Fay Wray, Donald Cook, Stuart Erwin, George E. Slone, Joseph Schill-krnut and Katherine De Mille.
"The Merry Widow"
The famous triumvirate of Ernst Lubilch, Maurice Chevalier and Jennette Muelhonak returns to tho screen-in-its-most glamorous achieve=" ment in "The Merry Widow", specta- cular transcription of the Franz Leher masterpiece bringing to the screen for the first time the music Joved all over the world. The much- talked-of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer pro- duction coming very shortly to the Queen's Theatre brings to pictures the original continental romance with its haunting Viennese music, but ou a scale seldom seen in any picture. Fluge settings, hundreds of gorgeous- ly costumed people, Metüresque Albertine Rasch ballets, great musical ensembles are combined to make a picture of 化 magnitude seldom at- tempted. Chevalier nn thu debonair Danilo ran the gamut from comedy to gripping drama, as does Miss Mac. Donald in the role of Sonia. They sing all the famous song kits of the production, and elaborale orchestral and choral ensemhies under Herbert Stolaart form a musical background- Edward Everett Harton supplies comedy as the ambassador and Una Merkel and George Barbier are the screamingly funny king and queen. Minna Gombell, Ruth Channing, Sterling Holloway, Donald Meek and others are in the elaborate east,
"The Black Cat"
A vivid pictorial description of some of the most pletaresque And out of the way spots in Central Europe, where many legends of mys tery have sprung up, is given in Universal's thriller, The Binck Cat", i showing at the King's Theatre, The same locale from which the sinister "yampire" of "Dracain" was alleged to have come, on the outskirts of Hungary, is painted with glowing| pictures in this film, which is based on a tale of the same name by Edgar Allan Poo. Karloff and Lugosi, those thrilling portrayers of "Franken-
atien" and "Dracula" are brought to- gether for the first time on the screen in this picture, with supporting cast including David Manners, Jackquoline Wells, Herman Bing, Lucillo Lund and mary others. Edgar
Ulmer directed.
