PUNTERS HAPPY. ON SATURDAY

(By "Capt. Foster")

The rain spoilt what would otherwise have been a very pleasant day's racing at Happy Valley last Saturday afternoon. In contrast to the opening meet- jing for the second half of the racing season, the favourites were more or less in an obliging mood, and did much to brighten a somewhat dreary afternoon. Dividends, in [consequence, were on the small side but I am sure it is the pleasure of seeing one's judgment vindiented by seeing one's particular fancy win which really appeals to the majori ty, and not so much the commercial side of the sport.

Racing Heart ran a good pony, with Mr. Donald Black In the maddle, to win the Canberra Handi. cap. This pony has shown con- siderable improvement since the Spring and I understand his next engagement will be in the Free-1 mantle St. Leger on November 17. i I think he will run well for that race but I very much doubt if he can lower the colours of Able Amazon, certainly the best mare in i the Colony today. (By "Veritas").

Holiday-makers will not have to search far for amusement to-morrow: a visit to the Foot- ball Club ground at Happy Valley promises to provide them with an entertainment of classical football when teams representing the Football Association and the Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation meet in the first leg for the Governor's Cup.
