The following reports on the New York stock market have dean ceived through Messrs. Swan, Culbort- non and Fritz: The Wall Street Journ al report on yesterday's markots: Stocks Armed up, due to the improve- ment in steel production, but at the close most issues were receding from the day's high levels, owing to the gonorally pessimistic atmosphere. Bons were irregularly higher, fea- tured by the firmness of United States Government issues. Stocks, on the Curb Exchange were upward. Whent prices were downward, due to reports. of favourable weather con ditions in the Argentine.

8. G. & F. New York office cables: The stock market developed nio- Security derately. firm tone ns tho Exchange Commission announces connorvative regulation programme. There is no outstanding news. Auto- mobile production totalled 42,900 Cath and trucks during the week ended September 13th. Business failures for the week ended September 18th totalled 19. against 174 last week and 275 failures during the corres- ponding period of last year, 530,000. New York and Chicago commodity reports received through Messrs. Swan, Culbertson & Fritz:-

Calton: Favourable crop and wea ther reports, poor exports, a slack domestic offtake and political and financial uncertainty are preventing outside participation, which is neces- zary for any Austained advance. There is continued agitation for the ropeal of the Bankhead Act.

Grain: Feare of imports of wheat; coplous rains in the South-west and general apathy on the part of Traders caused a narrow market. The tong wan steady to-day and the cash posi- tion remained strong,

Rubber: The market is dull and featurelenn.

Sugar: The market ruled quiet, but barely steady, awaiting develop-

inenta.
