SERIOUS CHARGES AGAINST THE MASTER OF THE DOLLAR LINER PRESIDENT CLEVE- LAND, THAT HE FAILED TO RENDER THE BEST ASSISTANCE POSSIBLE TO THE PASSENGERS AND CREW OF THE ILL FATED MORRO CASTLE, WERE MADE BY TWO OFFICERS OF HIS OWN SHIP TO-DAY AT THE INQUIRY INTO THE DIS- ASTER NOW PROCEEDING HERE.

Chief Officer Dwight Randall and Third Officer Harold Petersen declared that Captain Robert Carey did not manoeuvre his ship to advantage in the work of rescue and that more lives could have been saved by the more prompt lowering of the ship's boats.

Both officers asserted that they no longer wished to serve under Captain Carey in consequence of what they considered his negligence in emergency.
