ALTERNATIVE TIPS TO SUIT CONDITIONS
́WET COURSE ASSURED EVEN IF OVERHEAD IMPROVES
(By "Captain Foster")
In writing these notes I have dealt with prospects for either a soft or hard course and my reason for doing so is that, at time of writing, (Thursday morning) the weather is very uncertain. I consider the explanation necessary in case the weather looks definite-fine or wet-when these notes appear in print. Naturally we all would like a fine day and I hope that we shall have one as it does make all the difference at one's enjoyment, especially at race meetings.

I are four griffins have been entered for this event but I gather New Star will be the only representative of this new contingent, and I make him the winner. I am told that Bright View and Electric Star are definitely not starting here. Sollier of China would be very dangerous, but I hear he is being reserved for the Wuchow Handi- cap. If he docs competo here 1 make him my second choler. In his ab sence, we should see a good falsh for the second and third positions among Blue Star, Bright Star, King's Bounty and Navy Hall.

The outstanding event in last Saturday's cricket was the six wicket victory of the Army over the I.R.C., which made the Shield safe for the Club. As the um- pires usually remark in a sham fight, great credit was due to both sides.
