That the attention of the United States is turning to the Pacific and the Orient and that Hongkong and the entire Far East will share in the increased tourist trade during this year, is the opinion of Mr. James

executive King Steele, secretary of the Philippine Tourist the Association, who arrived on President Lincoln, en route to his home in Manila. He is returning from an extended visit in America, during part of which ho wns in charge of the tourist exhibit of the Philippine Islands at "The Century of Progress. Fair," Chicago.

"Manila will loom large in the Pacific in the next two years, for the Manila Rotary Club has invited the International Puelfic Rotary Conference to hold its 1986 meet- ing there, and this will attract many visitors, who will also visit Hongkong. We hope that the Rotary Club will plan to send as large a delegatlon as possible to this important meeting. Another great international convention which will be of Immense benefit to all countries of the Pacific littoral will. be the International Eucharistic Conference, which will be held in Manila in 1936. Both of these meetings will bring thousands of travellers across the Pacifle."

Mr. Steele is well-known in China and other parts of the world. For more than twenty years, ho has been associated with the pro- ; motion of tourist travel across the Pacific. He

the founder- publisher and editor of the magazine Japan and is the dean of i publicists and writers specializing on the development of tourist trafic. He has done much to im prove relations and promote better understanding between the Enst and the West.

For his work in Chicago, Mr. Stacie was awarded the Century of Progress Commeniorative Medal, which was struck off by the Fair officials to be presented to dia- tinguished visitors.

While in Hongkong, Mr. Steelo will confer with steamship officials, tourist booking offices and hotel people. The exchange le favourable at this time and this should bring a number of visitors during tho coming months. Under these con-

ditions, it is expected that the attractions of Bagulo, the sport and health centre of the Philip pines with its delightful weather all the year, will influence many residents who formerly went to the Chinese coast resorts to spend their holidays there.
