ELLIOTT & LEONARD INVITED TO GO TO

LEAGUE GAMES

There was rejoicing In London when Clapton Orient defeated Nor. wich is a keen league match during

SOUTH CHINA'S CHANCE the New Year holiday programme,

TO GO ON TOP

IN RACE FOR SECOND DIVISION

CHAMPIONSHIP

(Dy "Varitus").

According to the league handbook, the second division programme should end this Saturday, but all of the teams will have at least one more match, and several of them two or three, to play.

Unless the Athletic can

upset South China at Carolino Hill, which is extremely doubifu), it in doubt- ful whether the day's programme will bring the solution of the championship problem in the second division any nearer,

A

Appearances suggest that every- thing will depend on the clash be- tween South China and the Border- ora. The "24th" are without game this week, which means that South China will probably over the leadership again.

A win for the Chinese allow them to go above the Borderers by one point, both having played the same number of matches, and each with two games outstanding,

In view of the Club's unexpected success in the Junior Shield fast week, one can expect a spirited encounter resulting from their meeting with the Royal Artillery. The Gunners, one of the most im proved teams in local football (they seem to make a habit of recoveries in the second half of a season), would suggest themselves as likely winners. They have had one or two outstanding achievements to their credit of late, and it is doubt- ful whether the Club's form of a week ago will be good enough to stop the Blue, and Reds.

Beyond these two matches the second division programme holds Hittle, or no interest.

LINCOLNS' TASK.

In the third division, the Lin- colns, already established cham- pions, are regarding their tie with the Borderers in rather a serious' light as this is likely to be their only obstacle in achieving a one hundred per cent, league, record for

the season.

At Chatham Road on November 18, the Lincolns, won with the greatest ease, beating the "24th" by five clear goals. Since then the Borderers have dropped only three points in fivo mtaches, and a win this week would place them strong- ly for the runners-up honours,

South China will improve their standing at the expense of the Borderers. The Chinese should be ablo to collect points from the Air Force, and defeat for the Borderers would put them on level pegging for second place, with South China still holding a game in hand.

At the present time the clevon players who will actually con stitute the team to oppose Shang- hai are all it, and the majority of them have been putting in some serious practice. On Saturday therefore, we shall have the oppor- tunity of obtaining a fairly re- liable idea of their chances in the triangular Interport.

THIS SATURDAY

(By "Varitas").

As was exclusively foreshadowed in the Teleg yesterday, Elliott, the Kowloon forward, has beer vited to join the Hongkong Interport team as res and if able to accept, he will play in the match aga Tientsin.

The selectors met last night | zuzawawuNMNACANON to fill the vacancy left by

Ernest Strange, who two days RAILWAY GROUND IS ago found he could not make the trip to Shanghai, and they decided to invite bath Elliott and Dave Leonard of St. Joseph's.

If they are in the position to, accept, it will mean the Hongkong team will be up to its original strength of sixteen players.

Their inclusion assures a firat rate forward lino ngainst Tientsin, and it will conceivably be as follows:--B. Gosano, Elliott, A.. V: Gosano, Leonard and Tay Qua- ton. Cork and Brittain are certain to be taken into the half back! line, probably to the exclusion of Beltrao and Pile..

SATURDAY'S ARRANGEMENTS.

The selection of Leonard, in view of the fact that a severe in- jury has kept him out of football for the past month may appear to be a somewhat risky move, but assurance has been given that Leonard is now fit.

In order to give all of the Bixteen selected players a chan- ce of playing together on Satur day, arrangements have been made for the cleven to oppose Shanghai to play in the first half against the Combined Chinese, and the team to meet Tientsin to play in the second holf.

Interport reserves are therefore sked to turn up at Chatham 3oad with their toga, and to be In readiness to play.
