A murderous assault with chopper which occurred in Queen's Road Central in the vicinity of the Queen's Theatre at noon to-day rendered aghast the many persons who witnessed it at the busy hour.

Strange ovents following the disappearance from the Peninsula Hotel of a French cook, were un- folded before the Chief Justice this morning when an application was made on behalf of relatives for leave to swear the death on or about March 25, 1930, of Charles Joseph Moureaux, a bachelor, aged 27.

Mr. II. G. Sheldon, instructed by Mr. M. II. Turner, attorney for the brother and sisters of deceased who live In France, made the application and said it would be necessary when applying for letters of administration to the estate, to swear the death.
