CONTRACT BRIDGE

By W. E. McKenney

Solution to Previous Contract Problem

I wonder, how many of my readers were successful in work- Ing out the preceding problem hand. It is a beautiful example of the triple squeeze. If you make the mistake of ruffing a diamond, your contract la do- feated.

C. F. Waltman of Reading, Pa.. was sitting in the North, His partner, South, was the dealer and opened the contracting with one heart.

Waltman, using the one-over- one, did not have to Jump the .contract, as one spado was a force. Since all 'South had was his original bid, he simply showed his five-card suit by a bid of two hearts. The bid of four spades on the part of Waltman was a definite alam try.

South now felt that the informa- tlon most valuable to his partner would be showing the ace of dia. monds. So five diamonds was his next bid. Since South did not bid

Waltman now made a nice bid of six clubs. South went to six spades to show at least threo spades and Waltman went to seven.

The Play
