QUARRY BAY SCHOOL.

EXCELLENT ENTERTAINMENT AT PRIZE DISTRIBUTION

"It is a most marvellous por formance, and I think it is a most marvellous school" said Mr. N. LA bmith, the Director of Education at the close of a very ontertaining jevening at the Quarry Bay Bchool yesterday, when the annual dia- tribution of prizes was hold.

The largo gathering present, which packed the small hail to its utmost, was treated to a splendid performance by the little kiddies, all ranging between the ages of five and nine. Present In tho gathering were the Hon. Dr. 8. W. Tao. Mr. A. R. Sutherland' and Mr. A. O; Brawn, of the Education Department, Mr. J. Ralston, Mr. A. T. Hamilton, Mr. W. L. Handy- side and several other headmastere from other schools in the Colony,

It was altogether an amazing performance on the part of the children, and showed the care and training which had been bostowed on them by Miss G. M. Colton, the Headmistress.

The programme opened with a enrol 'Here We Come A-Wasanil- ling" and was followed by the school band rendering soveral carols. The musical effect was produced by a yarious, assortment of instruments, such na tam- bourines, hand rattles, bells, and other sound producing instruments which wore handled by the child- ren effectively in perfect time. The whole produced a fine effect, and the Itern. was handsomely re- ceived.

The children acted splendidly, and gave a varled selection of itents including nursery rhymes, carola, band items, a poem, 'King Hilary and the Beggarman'' and a short play entitled 'Snow White," in which the participants showed rare talent. ..

The Shadow Dance by little Peter Smith was particularly well received, and this same youngster acted as Peter Pan in the threa scenes from the playlet of the name. The part of Wendy was filled by little Elma Meffan and Captain Hook by George. Cooper. The lost boys were K. Kinnaird. K. Bailey, P. Hosogood, K. Meffan and G. Warran, while the pirates were played by R. Clark, F. Kin- naird, N. Marden, J.. Hyne, C. Osborne, and B. Hyno, Two othera in the cast were D. Moffan- and M. Hynes,

The scenes were extraordinarily well arranged, with some fine neting on the part of the perfor- mers. The last scene in particu lar.'showing the pirate ship, came In for a good deal of applauso on account of the vivid effect pro- duced. The stage had been arranged to represent the Inside of a ship, with the man at the tiller and the pirates on deck. The lost boys were hidden away in the hold, and brought forth to be bullied by the Pirate chief, Cap- tain Hook. The climax came when Peter Pan came to the rescue, and In a duel with the pirate chief, killed him.

The final number was the sing- ing of two carols in which the whole gathering joined.

Mr. N. L. Smith, previous to this, distributed the prizes. Before do- ing so, he paid a tribute to Miss Cotton and her staff.
