The Bidding

South, the dealer, started the contracting with one heart, West overcalled with one spade, North

bid two hearts. The bidding of two hearts by North is none too strong, but it is worth giving the partner at least one support.. East then bid three hearts. This bid la made to show partner no losera in hearts.

South passed and West bid three spades. North passed and East made a ahift jump bid to five clubs. This is a demand bid and requires partner to keep the bidding open. South passed and West went to five spades. North passed and East un- doubtedly should pass, as West, hig partner, has been showing mini- mums throughout, but it is very tempting to bid the alam and East took the contract to six spades.
