SELECTIONS FOR TO-MORROW'S RACE MEETING

Raymond, a 33-1 outsider, owned by Sir Abs Bailey, and ridden by Nicall, won the Cambridgeshire Race at Newmarket. This picture shows the winner (No. 9) being led in after the race. (Planet News).

It is of course, far too early to say much with my reliance but-broadly speaking--the sub-griffins appear to me, on the whole, to be a good looking lot. "These animals were purchased from two separate dealers on an equal basis and, if any judgment of human nature is sound, I feel that, as an outcome of the dealers competing against each other, we should have some speedy animals.

Every owner, no matter whom, naturally would like to draw an outstanding pony, but there is no disguising the fact that a real "amaahor" does materially spoil racing as witness the many easy victories of Racing Ray last year.

The "Suba" this year have been a very even lot and in their class produced keen racing much to the enjoyment of owners and specta- tors who closely contested finishes. I wonder whether we shall be us fortunato next year?

The majority of "subs" are doing "work as laid down in the reguin- tions"-I have been watching them closely and as time goes on 1 shall give you the benefit of my observa- tions-rightly or wrongly.

DON'T DESPAIR. They may be also to your fancy. If not, add them to your list of probable winners next year. I hope I shall liave plenty to say regarding their "pows" as I feel that the winner of the -Valley- Stakes is amongst them!. (Unofficial) a most sporting race and I am told that on the November, 30 of each year a similar race is held in Shanghai, Tientsin and Hankow.

TN the Northern ports, they say, the race is considered one of the

I important social events of the season. The principal of the "Muckle Hoose" at each of these ports is "At Home" to all and aundry at the Grand Stand, and the gathering, as befitting the occasion, is unusually large, Scots predominating. The Bagpipes are played on the spacious club lawns and, I understand, the supply of Haggis is inexhaustible.

For the race at the valley this! year, there will be 14 starters and, frankly, I cannot "spot" the win- ner. 'Tis said that you can give weight but not distance. I notice that the distance handicap this year has been considerably re- daced and Messrs. Nicholls (Miles) and Dinnnen (Stable Secret) go off at the 175 yards mark. Per haps they may not be too good to follow. Mr. Fludes Wilson (Two Clubs) will ride at 180 lbs, with a start of 140 yards-weight I fear will put him out of action. Mr. Remedios (Fighting Blood) may be

Crowe following. Mr. worth (Gobi Elf), apparently, in out to win the race for the second time in succession.

Canton reports that he has been training very hord, and in this Instance the report can bej taken truthfully. Last year he went to scale at 185 lbs and this year he will ride at the low Impest of 168 lbs.

Mr. Frost has an excellent chance on Sunning and we know from ex- Iperience that one is practically eer- tain of a return when backing him. As a gucan I select the following

I expect to see ʼn good race between Rony Morn and City of Brisbane and the 5 lbs. in favour of the latter may just give her the first position.

Portia carries the same weight as Rosy Morn (160 lbs) and I

think-apart from the weight, the distance is a shade too long for her to win. She will have to have all the fuck to be successful. I shall nct be at all surprised' to wes Lucy Glitters with the light Impost of 143 lbs. filling the third position. My selections aros

JOTTINGS FROM MY NOTEBOOK

(By "Captain Faster"):

Our very progressive Stewards can be congratulated in having bought such a splendid consignment of Australians for our next Annual Meeting, They are freely admitted to be the finest shipment since the introduction in 1931 of Austrálian pony racing-as apart from "Walers"--to the Colony, and I am definitely of the opinion that every existing record will be shattered in 1934.
