RIDLEY'S DECIDING GOAL

LINCOLNS DEFEAT CANTON XI

SMART FOOTBALL

Over 4,000 persons saw the Lin- coins football team of Hongkong win the friendly match from the Intang Military Academy cadets at the East Parade Grounds on Sunday.

The ball travelled swiftly from one ond of

Shortly after the beginning of the second half, the visitors scored, a goal, The local tenni tried hard to even the score but failed to break through the defence of the Lincolns, with several fruitless long shota.

Towards the end of the game, one of cadets fallbacks was injured and the cadets had to continue with ten men. They resorted to the defen

FREE FROM RISK.

The Londoner's leads carried so Ittle behind them that McAvoy treated them almost with levity. Never can a boxer have found attacking so free from risk as did McAvoy, and he was alwaya scor- in at a steady price.

His best blow was a right to the short ribs. His left be used chiefly to get his distance, except when he cornered Sexton, which was often. Then he let him have it with a vongeance.

But there was far too much holding and too much mere spar ring for the fight to be a good

une.

Still, it needs two to make a battle, and Sexton was never able to make up his mind to turn ag- grossor.

I was terribly disappointed in him. So was everyone else. H Is and to sed & man so 'nieted by nerves that he cannot give of his beat.Geoffry Simpson.
