MAKING BOYS REST
AN INTERESTING EXPERIMENT
BY HEADMASTER
London.
Mr. Maurice L. Jacks, hend- master of Mill Hill School, London,
is making his pupils alt still for 30 minutes every day after lunch.
"One or two very active boys dis- liked the rule when it was first in- troduced," Mr. Jacks explained. "They would have preferred to be playing games, but now I think the rest period has become quite popu- Jar with the majority of the boys. Not only do they enjoy it, but they feel much better after it, and are less tired in the afternoon.
"The idea was my own," he said. "It seemed to me that the boys who spent so much of the day running about would benoft by a period of rest after their mid-day meal," and so I introduced a rulo to this effect at the beginning of the year.
FIRST RESULT.
"Though it is early to say yet just how much benefit they have derived from it, the school as a whole put on more weight in the Enster term than during the pre- vious Christmas term before the rule was introduced."
Headmasters in all parts of the country are watching the experi- ment with interest.

AUSTRALIAN TAX CUTS EXPECTED
BARGAINING FOR · BETTER BANK RATES
Melbourne, Aug. 15. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. A Lyons, conferred to-day with re- presentatives of the associated bunks and with Commonwealth banking and treasury officials.
He is expected to offer a aub- stantial cut of ten per cent. in the super-tax on income derived from property and an early abolition of the federal land tax. These con- cessions will be held out to the
associated banks as reasons why the rate of interest on overdrafts for industry should be further re- duced.
The Prime Minister to-day also gave details of the Government of Australia's compensation plan to meet the claims of British migrant settlers, which were recently in- quired into by a royal commission,
