THE "ISIS" AGAIN

The Oxford undergraduates' magazine Isis springs into pro-i minence at more or lesa regular intervals with some outspoken- article criticising one aspect or another of life at the University.

It has just done so again-this time in a protest by the editor against the "brainless revels" of Oxford undergraduates and their Bouvenir hunting habits, which have been very marked this 'term, and culminated in the removal of the sign over the office of the “Inin."

After enumerating some of the artielca which take the under. graduates' fancy-shop signs, street lamps and cutlery in hotels and restaurants, the leading article state that hotel keepers are trusting undergraduates. less and loss, and adds "that scon students, whether studious or kleptomanincal, will not be allowed in the streets except un- der armed guard."

THIEVING MENTALITY.

"It is difficult to Imagine the reas son for the existence of this thieving mentality," writes the editor, Mr. Robertson Crichton. "It is largely bravado brought on by beer and an inferiority complex. It shows not the fearlessness of the modern undergraduate but rather his pre- sent fear of being entirely in- significant.

It is an essential part of the make up of the 'really good man to be able to look danger in the face without flinching. Thus he feels himself impelled to steal knives and to cause endless fun by decorating the Martyrs' Memorial with articles of varying nature."

TWO LINES OF ACTION.

In seeking the causes of the trouble, the writer says "It can only be either an extremely infantil. or drink-sodden mind which derives foolish satisfaction from stealing street lamps.

"There are, therefore, two lines of action which lie before us-to ruise the standard of responsions. (the University "entrance exam"), or to place an embargo upon liquor entering Oxford. Wo suggest this latter as the right course.

"Let these pilferers be driven from our gates like the vagabonds and thieves that they are. Then shall we live in a decent state of society.
