BRITAIN'S DAVIS CUP TRIUMPH
AUSTIN AND PERRY ON TOP IN KEEN GAMES
Thousands of frenzied tennis fans, who through four sets and thirteen games had cheered the wonderful rallics, and gaped in amazement at the skill and artistry of the players, were stunned into silence when Ellsworth Vines, facing defeat at the hands of F. J. Perry in the last match of the Davis Cup tie between Britain and America yesterday, suddenly collapsed after serving two double faults and was carried from the court in a fainting condition.
It was the climax to the most thrilling exhibition of tennis ever seen at the Stade Roland Garros. It gave Britain her fourth victory of the series and left her worthy challengers to France, holders of the Davis Cup.
Austin clinched the issue for Britain in the first match of the third day's play, when he beat Wilmer Allison in four sets. Austin indulged in artistic tennis *to achieve the performance.
