RESTAURANT TOO NEAR
DANCING ACADEMY
The proximity of dancing academy, to the Excelsior Restaurant was one of the objec tions raised by Mr. T. II. King, Doputy Inspector Generat of Pollee, to the granting of a rea- taurant keeper's adjunct ilcence to Mr. Puran Chand, proprietor of the Excelsior Restaurant, at the meeting of the Licensing Board yesterday.
After the Board had considered. the application, the Chairman, (Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn) in- formed the applicant that there were already sufficient facilities for meals and with drinks in the vicinity of his restaurant. The Board therefore was not prepared to grant the licence.

Mr. F. G. Nigel, appearing for Mr. Chand, said he understood that from $18,000 to $20,000 has been spent on the premises and nothing had been skimped to make tho restaurant at fit and proper place for an eating house. Much money would be just if the licence was not granted. Many people thought It was impossible to cut a meal with out drinking something at the same time. He himself had been to the place, and it was very well fitted
up.
The Chairman.-The feeling of the Board previously was that there were plenty of places already Heensed in that vicinity. What have you to put forward in favour of our issuing another licence,
Mr. Nigel. I don't believe there are many leensees in that part of Des Voeux Rond. There may be others on the Queen's. Rond" side, but as far as I am aware, there are very few of them on tho Des Vooux road side.

With regard to Mr. King's re ference to the danding academy, Mr. Nigel said. The girls are for bidden to leave the academy before it closes, which is long after tho hour the license expires. I believe during the day there is little doing in the academy. It is also very unlikely that they will attract people from the academy, accing that they will be closed long before the academy.
After the Board had considered the question, the Chairman Bald that the Board was of the opinion that there were at present auillefent facilities for meals and drinks in that locality, and was not prepared to grant. the license.
