According to Messrs. Swon, Cul- bertson and Feltz, the New York market was firin yesterday. Buai- ness lone: 4,370,000 shares. The Wall Street Journal reports:-The confirmation by Mr. Wondin, Serre. tary of the Treasury, that the Federal Reserve Hanks have been authorized to buy Government securities to ex- pand credit, caused further sharp gains in commodities which helped Alocks to attain new high levels. The market was also

strengthened by "Ironage'n report that steel produc- tion was 38% capacity and the edition of Electric Institute's report that elec tricity production in the United States for the week ending May 20 recorded 3.3% gain, which is the largest since February 1930,

b១. Remington Arms bonds advanced Rly. substantially owing to the announce ment that Duponts have purchased controlling interest.

Ironage Magazine report

steel production advanced to

88%% of capacity, the highest since June 1931. due to increased demand for automo biles, plus broadening miscellaneous steel buying.
