LOCAL SPORTSMEN'S

FINE EFFORT

Thanks to the generous spirit of a group of sports- men, the debt owing the V.R.C,, by the old and now defunct Hongkong Swim- ming Association has been wiped off.

At a meeting of the Council of the ILK.LAS.Ã, yesterday it was announced that a letter had been received from the V.B.C., acknow- ledging the payment. These ar- rears, which amounted to $509.51, have been met by voluntary sub- seriptions on the part of Chinese and European. the new Swimming Association having acted as trus- tess for the fund.

Some very good times were ro- gistered, and que record was smash- led, at the annual Inter-School Sports which were held at Caroline Hill on the South Chinn A.A. ground yester- day afternoon.

RACKET STORM WONDER

Roger Pulbrook, of Harrow, a tall, slim boy, is the most remark- the able player ever seen in Public Schools rackets champion- ship.

It was agreed by experta when Harrow beat Winchester by four gamen to one, that no one has ever served a ball faster than Pulbrook.

After first rapping the floor violently with his racket and then the alde-wall, he. "tles himself into a knot" and launches him- self at the ball with such fury that it flies from his racket with 'almost incredible speed.

Mr. Y. K. Mok presided at the meeting, having just returned from a business tour, and others present were Mr. E. W. Railton (Hon, Sec.), Mr. R. Goldman (Hon.

Walters of Worcester elnimed. the best butting achievement, when he slogged the Notts attack to score 116 out of a total of 210. He hit brilliantly all round the ovicket and was seldom in dieul- ties.

Cambridge gave a decided in- dication of their batting strength, when they hit the Sussex howlers to all parts of the field to rattle up 488 for 6 declared. Winlaw was top scorer with 165 and he remained undefeated.

Gregory of Surrey Johed the select band to score a century in the season's opening match, when he flayed the M.C.C. trundlers to aggregate 111. The county team compiled 384 in response to the Club's 101 and the M.C.C. were lucky to avoid an innings defeat, the close coming when they had Jost nine wickets in their second knock and were still 77 runs in Arrears.-Reuter,
