Under the general scheme which was approved by the Bishop of Lon- don, the money derived from the sale of the Biles of redundant churchea is to be devoted to the churches in provision of new thickly populated suburban areas.

Evcusong was celebrated in the church for the last time on the eve of the Epiphany, when choir and clergy walked round the build- ing in procession before the bless- ing was pronounced by the Bishop of Kensington. ··

Fight For Existence

The Vicar and the congregation fought the demolition scheme to the last. When first the church was declared to be redundant a series of objections earned it a year's re- prieve. Final condemnation was fought with a series of petitions, processions, and agitation. Tho enilatment of public sympathy at one time almost saved the church.

If St. Mary's had not the savour of antiquity, it is pleasant in its db surroundings. It was built in 1850, replacing another which had been successively a Greek church in the Seventeenth Century and French Protestant church.

The congregation had dwindled to a handful fewer than half-dozen at times. It is these alone who will low their regular pince of worship. But it will be missed by the hund- rede to whom St. Mary's was a place of occasional meditation and rest.
