A sophisticated little mies, she was only three years old when she practi cally broke up a play in which her mo- ther was appearing by audibly fusing to take it seriously, Kay told the story during a lull between scenes on the set of Ernst Lubitsch's "Trou ble in Paradise", from the play by Laszlo Aladar, now showing at the King's Theatre, in which she is fea tured with Miriam Hopkins, Herbert Marshall, Charlie Ruggles and Ed. ward Everett Horton. Her mother, Katherine Clinton, was performing in a play on Broadway, Kay explains, and she herself was sitting in with another kid of her own age. In the third act, a shot was fired. Miss Francis mother threw up her arms, collapsed, and died, in accordance with the plot. Kay turned to her compan lon, and, in that naively loud volco which children use, remarked: "Don't be afraid. That's my mama, and she's not really dead. She's only acting". The audience heard it and burst into abricks of laughter, The show was practically stopped until it died. Kay got a good spanking. In "Trouble in Paradiso" she's cast as a wealthy widow, picked by Miss Hopkins and Marshall, a pair of suave super- crooks, as a prospective victim.

"Sky Devila"

A picture that took a year in the making and cost more than a half million dollars is "Sky. Devils" which Howard Hughes, who made that th mois spectacle, "Hell's Angela", is offering as the first comedy of the lightning air. "Sky Devils" is a fact comedy, based on the thrilling and romantic adventures of three Ameri can aviators during the World War. The leading roles are played by Spen cer Tracy, William Boyd, George Cooper and Ann Dvorak.. This is Mr. Hughes' first comedy production since "Two Arabian Kniglits," sensation of four years ago. Devils" contains more laugha the dough-boy opus, and in addition, is full of air scenes as spectacular as the most thrilling moments in "Hell's Angels". The story of "ky Devils", which canies to the Klag's Theatre on Sunday next, hos many unusual twists, and the dialogue sparkles with humour. It moves at a terrific tempu, from start to finish, and piles laugh apon laugh, and thrill upon thrill, as the petion unreels on the screen.

Picture stars have their troubles, Otis Skinner, star of First National's "Kismet," coming to the Queen's Theatre on Sunday had a scene where, na Hail the beggar, he had to kick a fellow beggar from the steps of the Bagdad mosque. The kicking scene is rather protracted to permit Hojf to deliver a few chotice words to his victim. "How's that to thy taste? Ent that if thou art hungered? A dainty dish of foot and more to fellow! One-two-three Anuther mouth- fall" Every three words of this quotation are punctuated by a force ful, authentie kick in the seat or someone's Bagdad pantaloons. For the role of the mendleant Hajj, it could not be expected that Mr. Skin- ner would wear shoes, 50 the dis- tinguished actor was faced with the necessity of administering realistic kicks with his little pink toes. True to the best traditions of his art, bir. Skinner went through the scene four times until it was perfected, and the next day appeared on the set with a right foot swathed in liniment-soaked Turkish slippers." And thint's the reason one of the scenes shows Holi the beggar, wearing slippers, while the rest of them do not

New Laurel and Hardy Feature. The popular refrain, "Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and smile, smile smile," osaumes hilarious pro- portions when Laurel and Jardy huffle aimlessly on the screen of the Queen's Theatre in their latest feature comedy, "Pack Up Your Troubles." It does not seem possible that two nen, idly ambling about with nothing to do, could so continuously arouse gales of laughter. Yet, they perform the trick neatly and with dispatch, and the old kit bag is filled to overflowing with the tonic of contagious humour. It no mean feat, from what has been said about comedy production, to maintain t steady pace of fun throughout six long recla. Yet, that is exactly what Laurel and Hardy ac-. complish. Six reels of laughter, and laughter that mounts to titantic con- vulsions as they go on and on to the two climactic finish. Picture the

misfit funaters

as lazy, indolent doughboys. Picture them nonchalant- ly going over the front line trenches. Picture them trying to negotiate a loan from bunker offering their lunch wagon as Recurity. Picture them cornered by the police-picture them well, it's no use. Better go and aco thom-and pack up your troubles for the rest of the day. They're simply marvellous. There is aleo a cute little lady by the name of Jacquie Lyn. She'n clever and very talented. An the pathetic fell for Laurel and Hardy she is perfect. Then there are such players as Mary Carr, Richard Tucker, Billy Gilbert, Tom Kennedy and many others too (Continued ou Page 13.)
