The well-known firm of engineers and shipbuilders, Measra. W. 8. Balley &Co., Ltd., have contracted with the Notherlanda Harbour Works Co. of Amsterdam for reclamation of their water frontage in a distance of 200 feet senwards, and the foundation work of an additional alipway to take vessels up to 340 feet keel and 4,000 tons deadweigdt.

This slipway will be of the most modern design and solid construction and with every facility for cheap and efficient repair of vessels. The un- derwater work will be carried out in the "dry" enclosed by Larsson sheet piling for absolute fairness and re- ilability of the slipway, the concreto piles supporting the standing ways being closely spaced, and 20 inches square by 65 feet long.

The hauling gear will be electrient- ly driven, with current from the China Light & Power Co. Ltd., at 0,000 volts, reduced by a Transformer to 360 volia for use of all the slipways and other requirements of the ship- yard. The contract time for the work is 18 months.

Messrs. Bailey are also enlarging their existing slipways, and will have in all five slipways to take from small launches to consting vessels, and most efficiently their yard will be equipped throughout to meet any competition either in price or quality of work. The total cost of the work will be $1,200,000.
