The 1lon. M. H. T. Creasy, C. B. E., Director of Public Works, was the recipient of a handsome silver salver and cigarette box presented by the Officers of the Public Works Department yesterday afternoon. The presentatlon was attended by
large and representative gather ing of stalls of the Department, who expressed to their Chief the best of wishes.
Mr. R. M. Henderson, address- ing Mr. Creasy and those present. referred to Mr. Creasy's work both in Ceylon and in Hongkong, and paid a tibute to Mr. Cressy's years of service in the Colony.
Mr. Henderson, speaking glowing terms of the Hon. Creasy's work, said:

This gathering is therefore not only unusual but re- ser-markable in that it is the third meeting of this Dept. within the last four months and it is also a gathering to which we have come to honour and say farewell to our Chief.
Mr. Baldwin said that he trust- ed that proposals would be carried which would ensure, if not in the exact form, at least as great reduction in armaments as Pre-

If Mr. Creasy was led to believe he was going to a land flowing with milk and honey, in fact a sort 01
speedily Elysium, he was disitusioned as the week preced ing his arrival in the Colony, we suffered from the disastrous typ hoon of 1923.
In 1924 we had the great land and building boom when all of cers of this Department were en- deavouring to do two men's wark, followed in 1925 by the strike and boycott when the Director of Public Works became a sort of Universal Provider.
In 1926 there occurred the elec- trie storm and torrential rain In July, when the whole machinery of the Colony was completely dis- organised and tremendous dumage was done.
1927 and 1928 were perhaps the two most tranquil years of Mr. Creasy's service, and I expect he thinks that the reason for this was that during one of these years he was home on leave.
