London, June 8.

MIDDLESEX, REJUVENATED IN ALL depart-

Hearne was the hero of the match, scoring a magnificent century in the first innings, his unfinished 143 being made out of a total of 291, and in the second knock compiling 65.

Sussex accomplished a fine performance in defeat- ing Gloucester by two wickets after a game of fluctuat ing fortunes and a most exciting finish, when Parker captured six wickets for 29 runs to give Sussex the scare of their lives.

There were many outstanding feats with the bat and bail, } : details of which are appended.

with London's teams encounter Essex. and were chiefly responsible for Surrey's easy win by nine wickets.

Essex made a brave start, com- piling a total of 349 in their initial innings, and for this score they were mainly indebted to O'Conner and Cutmore who scored 115 and 106 respectively,

Allom's & for 94 was a fine effort in face of this, but he performed even better when Essex batted n second time, and, taking 4 for 38 helped to skittled them out for 103. Surrey made a splendid response to Essex's big first lanings acore, and passed it with an aggregate of 399, to which Barling contributed 122. Surrey only required 54 runs to win and they secured them for the loss of one wicket.

SUSSEX SCRAPE HOME. Masterly Bowling by Parker Nearly Causes Upset.

The Indians, despite good bow- lug by Jupp, who captured half the wickets for 64 runs, put to- gether a rat inninga total of 279 and secured the necessary 29 runs for victory without loss."

SHOCK FOR OXFORD

South American Visitors

Win By 10 Wickets.

The South Americans fairly surprised Oxford, winning by ten wickets after having all the better of the exchanges.

Oxford were first dismissed for 170, and in reply, the visitors put together the handsome score of 405, the highest of the day. Mar- shall batted stylishly for his 153. Despite a contury by S. II. Brooke, his second in successivo matches, the hawling of Dennis Ayling was too good for Oxford and they were all out for 284 in their second venture.

The South Americans secured the 14 runs without loss.
