M. DUFAURE DE LA PRADE PROCEEDING HOME

TELEGRAPE. FRIDAY, MAY 13, 1932.

A popular member of the Con- sular Corps in Hongkong is shortly departing from our midst in the poreon of M. G. Dufauro do la Prade, who is going back to France on leave. As there are many who believe that he may be rewarded with a higher position by a Govern- ment over cognizant of the ser- vices of its devoted citizens, and that therefore ho may not come back again, the event is one marked with some regret, tempered, how- over by a bright outlook on his future career.

The cortego wended its slow way from the Elyace to the Pantheon, where M. Tardieu, ex- Premier, pronounced the funeral oration.

The procesalon halted at Notre Dame Cathedral, where the funeral service was conducted by the Car- dinni and Archbishop of Parla.

M. Georges Dufaure de la Prado was born in France on the 18th, day of August, 1879. He will therefore be 53 years of age very shortly, certainly not very young, so far as number of years go but

He has had a brilliant career. A graduate of the Ecole des Langues Orientales, M. Dufaure de la Prade took a special interest in the Chi- nese language, and after passing with distinction in Mandarin, he came out to the Far East In 1905, on being appointed to his first off- elal post of an Interpreter in Seoul, the capital of Korea. Of a recep tive turn of mind, he quickly assimilated Japanese, and became as the result deeply steeped in Oriental lore.
