PROJECT. DISCUSSED BY COMPANY CHAIRMAN

TELEGRAPH. THURSDAY, APRIL 28, 1932.

The eighth ordinary general meeting of the Hongkong and Yaumati Forry Company was held at the China Restaurant, Des Voeux Rond Central, yesterday, and, as expected, was well attond- ed, over 160 shareholders being present.

Mr. Lo Chung-kuc, tho Chair- man of the Board, presided and was supported by Messrs. Kwok- Chuon, Wong Hing-suen, Chan Kani-yung, Wong Choy-hoo, Choy Walshung and Li Yick-mul, (direc- tora).

The Chairman referred to the untimely death of Mr. Lau King- eho, one of the Managing Direc tors of the Company and extended the sympathy of the shareholders to the relatives.

In proposing the adoption of the balance sheet, the Chairman stated that 1931 had been An eventful year in the history of the Com- pany.

Although the net earnings for the year were very antisfactory, ho regretted that there was a consi- derable loss on the running of the Kowloon City and Shaukiwan Ser- vices.

The value of the fleet of ferry vessels had been written down to well below the market value whilst ample provision had been made as regards the Typhoon and Accident Fund.

Share Values Jump.

During the year under review the value of the Company's shares by on the stock exchanges rose leaps and bounds, one of the rea sons for this being the awarding of the vehicular and passenger ferry license between Hongkong and Gordon Rond, Mongkok and Shamshuipe to this Company for a form of 15 years by the Govern- ment. The tenders for this ser 4th vices were submitted on the Jnuary this year. The Board of Directors entrusted the actual work to the Managing Director Mr. Lau Tak-po, Dr. Kwan Sum-yin and Mr. Lo Chung-kee. The ten- der was submitted after in very careful review, of the Company's progress during the pass eight years, the receipts and earnings, and I am glad to say our efforts and your trust in us were duly re- warded.

In order to carry out the terms. four lender your Board of Direc tors have placed an order with the Hongkong & Whampoa Dock Com pany Limited for the construction) of three combined Vehicular and the Passenger Ferry Vessels at cost of $597,000 each making to- gether a total sum of 1,791,000. These vessels to he built and ready for service by 1st January, 1933. During the working year de- livery was taken of the two big steel double ended ferry vessels built for this Company by Messra, Kwong Fook Cheung. The Ves- sels being named the "Man To" and Man Wai.

SPEED OF DELIVERY is often the essence of a purchaser's contract. It is always desirable. For who wants to buy goods and wait months for their arrival?

If you would please your customers in the United States, ship VIA SEATTLE... the nearest United States Port to the Orient. If you would save them or yourself money on the shipment, ship VIA SEATTLE. The time saved means dollars.

If you care to route your goods to avoid un- necessary handling... route them VIA SEATTLE for a non-stop voyage across the Pacific.
